What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is an innovative therapeutic approach designed to enhance the delivery of pure oxygen to the body’s tissues. The HyperCube allows patients to breathe in 90%+ concentrations of oxygen at an increased level of atmospheric pressure. This may facilitate oxygenation of the blood, helping to speed healing and improve overall health.
Why use Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapies?
Oxygen is essential for the proper function of every cell in the body. Oxygen plays a critical role in cell metabolism, especially energy production by means of ATP, and is vital for nearly all wound-healing processes. Tissue oxygen levels play a fundamental role in the regulation of cellular proliferation and differentiation, particularly immune cell function.
HBOT has been clinically proven to enhance physical performance due to significant improvements in mitochondrial respiration and increased mitochondrial mass. It is used to speed repair of damaged tissues and assist in restoring healthy bodily function.
How does hyperbaric oxygen therapy work?
Hyperbaric therapy is simple, relaxing, and painless. The patient enters a hyperbaric chamber and breathes in concentrated oxygen at increased pressure levels. Air pressure levels within a Hyperbaric Chamber are about three or more times higher than normal air pressure, permitting highly efficient delivery of oxygen to the body’s cells.
Increased pressure enhances the oxygenation of all of the body’s fluids, including blood plasma, the central nervous system fluids, and the lymph.
This can stimulate production of white blood cells (WBCs), particularly in areas of reduced or blocked circulation. White blood cells play a crucial role in countering harmful bacteria, reducing inflammation, and promoting tissue repair and regeneration.
Studies have shown that hyperbaric oxygen therapy can assist with the healing of infections, particularly in oxygen-deprived tissues. It is effective in treating diabetic lower extremity wounds and delayed radiation injuries.
The elevation in hydrostatic pressure to the human body is shown to have a direct impact on treating pathological conditions in which gas bubbles are present, such as arterial gas embolism and decompression sickness.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapies may also treat ischemia-reperfusion injury in the central nervous system due to carbon monoxide poisoning. It has been used to effectively treat gangrene and slow-healing wounds.

Research suggests that hyperbaric therapy can have a powerful effect on the cells lining the blood vessels.
One study identified 8,181 genes that were significantly changed following one treatment, showing strong antioxidant and pro-survival effects of HBO on endothelial cells. Further treatment after 24 hours is shown to activate even more genes.
Wound healing
Injury to the body’s tissues results in trauma and the release of toxins. This secondary injury results in loss of blood flow and deprivation of oxygen to the affected area.
